Facts and Figures

  • 15% of household waste is made up of textiles e.g. clothing, bedding, etc. (EPA, 2009)
  • In 2007 234, 000 tonnes of textiles were sent to landfill while only 11,000 were recycled (EPA, 2009)
  • For every £1 invested in a furniture project the social return is equivalent to £5.89 (DEFRA, 2009) (From Furniture Re-Use Network Annual Report 2007/2008)
  • For every 1kg of paint (0.8 litres) reused 2.6kg of CO2 is saved (WRAP) (From Community Repaint Network)
  • For every 1kg of furniture reused 2.7kg of CO2 is saved (DEFRA, 2007)
